Outdoor Nationals York July 05
Lately we have had one of our best Tournament results finishing in second place behind mowers at the outdoor junior nationals in york on the 16th and 17th of july we took a team of fifteen players including 9 sixthformers, 2 year nines, and 2 year sevens we also took 2 year tens which when we arrived picked up for huckleberry fling as they didnt have enough players to enter a team
We started our tournament campaign with a strong game against the gb girls team in which we started to improve our team play winning with a healthy lead
we then played the tournament favourites mowers and suffered our first and only round robin stage defeat the score ending 13-3 to mowers
we then had a well spirited match against the fairly new team of fantastico which we won by a comfortable margin
then came huckleberry fling who were a bit worst for wear after the previous nights festivitys and we took an early lead which was quickly leveled out but we kept fighting to the end and won by a small margin
then we had our most hard fought game yet against our rivals from birkenhead "catch those" after a bad start and losing 8-4 going in to half time we fielded our strongest seven and played iron man to win the next four points drawing us even then catch those came back with a score in the last few minutes but we then brought the scores back even at 9-9then the horn went for the end of the game and we decided to play a 2 point cap and the first to 11 winning we then scored the next point givng us a lead and only one more point to score then they fought back again leavingus playing a sudden death point which after a fair few turnovers we managed to score the winning point
then came a comfortable game for us to relax abit against the arthurterry school who suprisingly had only played six hours of ultimate before this tournament we won this with a resounding score of 13-1
then we had are final game of the round robin stage and for a place in the final we had to beat team mongosling who every time we have played them we have had close games and this game was no different with a hard fought 8-8 draw at full time and a sudden death point for a place in the final we came out on top and ready for the final
then in the final every one gathered around the pitch for a game that every one could have predicted a 13-1 defeat for us and a resounding victory for mowers
the tournament finished with our co captain Tom Bryan taking the award for most spirited player of the tournament
